Microsoft Outlook - a Personal Information Manager

Microsoft Outlook is a full-featured personal information manager that is available as a part of Microsoft Office and also as a stand-alone program.

Outlook has the main email features like Outlook Express but that's the only feature they share.

So if you have Microsoft Office and was wondering whether you should use Outlook or Outlook Express would depend on the other features of Outlook.

The other features of Outlook are:

  • A calendar
  • A task list
  • Automatic backup into archive files
  • Address book is a very sophisticated contact management system
  • Can be programmed using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Can be used with Word to perform mail-merge in e-mail or to automate outgoing mail messages
  • A very powerful Junk Mail feature
  • Has message rules for both incoming and outgoing mail
  • Tailor-made for networks so its message store can be on a central server that many machines can access.

So Outlook has features that would do well in a large corporation, or a medium or small business that could use these additional features.

When I was working for a large corporation we were using Outlook and the main feature we liked was we were able to log in to our office computer from anywhere in the company.

I've also seen how medium or small businesses could use the sophisticated contact management system to track their customers or vendors.

The mail-merge feature is another important one for most businesses to send information out quickly.

With so much spam and junk mail today, the junk mail feature can sure cut dowm the spam problem.

Some of the topics we will be covering for Microsoft Outlook are:

  • Outlook setup
  • Outlook mail
  • Outlook backup
  • Outlook calendar
  • Outlook note
  • Outlook update
  • Outlook stationary
  • Outlook spam filter
  • Outlook spam blocker

So Outlook can be used for many different reasons if you need them for business purposes.
