Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2007 Free Edition scans the most critical parts of your system, including processes, registry, and selected system folders.

If you want to do other features outside of scanning, you have to buy the professional version.

The following features require the professional version:

• Unload browser while scanning
  
• Suppress failure warnings
  
• Skip files larger than 1048576
  
• Scan Alternate Data Streams (ADS)
  
• Run scan as background process
  
• Suppress progress bar during scan
  
• Close Ad-Aware 2007 after startup scan
  
• Update Definitions file before scanning
  
• and more..
  

It's a little labor intensive and it doesn't do many of the above features.

But I'm still happy with it until I find something better than this.
