Forgot XP Password - Restore your Password


Forgot XP password can be a scary thing to happen to anyone.

You can feel the perspiration on your forehead and coming down your back.

You suddenly realize you can lose all your important information you've stored on your computer for however long you've had it.

Requirements - floppy disk drive and floppy disk.

Most older personal computers have a floppy disk drive and if you do then you don't need to sweat it.

If you don't then you need to get a usb external floppy disk drive and plug it in.

Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk - allows the user to recover a user account when the user forgets his or her Windows XP Administrator password.

Create the Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk

Use a Windows XP Administrator password account.

Note - This procedure is for a computer that is part of a workgroup or for home use or in a small business.

Select Start > Control Panel

Select User (John) icon (Computer Administrator) account as an example.

Note - It's important to select a Windows XP Administrator password account.

Select under Related Tasks to the left of the window Prevent a Forgotten Password

Insert a Blank Formatted Disk into Drive A

Select Next

Select Next when Progress: 100% Complete

Select Finish

Take the Floppy Disk out of the disk drive and label it as the Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk

Log on with a Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk

If you forgot XP password, you can create a new password when you log in by using the Password Reset Wizard and Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk.

On the Windows Log On screen, select the user name that you want to use > Enter without entering a password.

The following error message shows up:

  • Did you forget your password?
  • You can select the ? to see your password hint.
  • Or you can use your Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk.

  • Please enter your Windows XP Administrator password again.
  • Be sure to use the correct uppercase and lowercase letters.

Select use your Windows XP Administrator password reset disk.

The Password Reset Wizard starts to create a new Windows XP Administrator password for your user account > Next.

Insert the Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk into drive A > Next.

Type a new Windows XP Administrator Password in the Type a new password box.

Type the same Windows XP Administrator Password in the Type the password again to confirm box.

In the Type a new password hint box, type a hint to remind you of your Windows XP Administrator Password in case you forget your new Windows XP Administrator Password.

  • Note This hint is visible to anyone who tries to log on to the computer by using your Windows XP Administrator Password account.

Select Next > Finish

The Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Wizard ends and returns to the Windows XP Logon screen.

  • Note The Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk is automatically updated with the new password. You do not have to create a new Windows XP Administrator Password Reset Disk.

Enter your new Windows XP Administrator Password in the Type your password box, and then select the Right Arrow button to log on to the computer.

Now you're able to get back in to your computer and access all your information if you forgot xp password.
