Why Buy a Refurbished Computer?...

Why buy a refurbished computer? Probably the only answer is price.

This may be a good alternative if you needed a second computer for the family.

The market that seems to be supplying refurbished computers are mainly coming from large companies who are upgrading every year.

You should be able to do email, home accounting, homework and some light graphics for pictures and video.

You need to check for CPU speed, RAM memory, Hard Drive space, CD/DVD, LAN connection, with or without a Monitor, with or without an Operating System.

Price will be affected by the following features:

  • CPU speed - Pentium 3 1Ghz to Pentium 4 2.8Ghz.
  • RAM memory - 256 MB to 500 MB.
  • Hard Drive - 20 Gigs to 100 Gigs.
  • CD/DVD - CDROM to DVDROM.
  • LAN connection - 10/100 Mbps.
  • Monitor - up to 17" flat Monitor.
  • Operating System - Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Media Center Edition.

As you can see the price can range from $100 to $1,000. It all depends on what you want to do with it.

The software you use and the graphics capabilities required by them will determine the speed and storage capacity you'll need.

Given all these factors one thing comes to mind and that is a beginning user would not be able to do all this.

So having a friend familiar with computers would be helpful.
